R&D Projects

Gairesa desings and formulates all the materials that the company commercializes. Besides these own projects, there are some other research fields within the R&D plan of Gairesa that are funded by regional, national and European governments.


In these R&D projects Gairesa cooperates with companies from different industrial sectors, universities and technological centres developing new materials with specific properties. Gairesa takes also part of international R&D consortiums, working together with other European companies in the development of future materials.

Below you can read a brief description of each R&D project:

ADHESITES 4.0 (2017-2018)

Description:: Development of an innovative method to monitorize the behaviour of a composite material based on the sensorization of the curing process through ferromagnetic particles.

Funding: Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Government of Spain).

NANO NATURAL STONE - N2S (2013-2014)

Description:: Development of nanotechnological coatings with specific properties for natural stone applications.
Funding: FEDER (European Union).

DURAPORT (2012-2014)

Description: New technologies for the construction of durable port structures. Development of epoxy matrix composites more durable than the concrete structures used in harbours nowadays.
Funding: FEDER (European Union).

BIOSOS (2009-2012)

Description: Development of new technologies and new concepts to obtain green energy and biomaterials. Gairesa has synthesized and formulated epoxy bioresins to obtain polymeric materials with a high content of raw materials from renewable resources. http://www.cenit-biosos.es/

FLEXAD (2009-2013)

Description: European project for the development of conductive adhesives (resistivity <10-6 •m) based on epoxy resins and conductive nanomaterials (silver nanofibers). These adhesives are addressed to substitute lead-free solders on PCB. Gairesa has been responsible of the matrix election and the design of the industrial manufacture process.

GANATEC (2008-2010)

Description: The aim was to obtain epoxy matrix nanocomposites with two effects in the final material properties:

  • Improvement of mechanical properties.
  • Achievement of a flame-retardant material.

PROMETEO (2006-2009)

Description: Development of new knowledge, technology and materials based on thermosetting epoxy matrixes, oriented to the improvement of productivity and business creation in the field of a more sustainable building construction.

ADHEPOL (2005-2008)

Description: Design and development of a new epoxy formulation for structural adhesive applications. A previous chemical reaction contributes to improve the adhesion of the new material.
Call: Technology Program of Materials.
Funding: Board of Innovation, Industry and Commerce (Regional Government of Galicia) + FEDER-MAC Funds (European Union).

MODANCLAJE (2004-2005)

Description: The aim of this project has been to obtain concrete structures reinforcements through epoxy resin/carbon fiber laminates. In this project different kind of resins, fibers, forms of application and surface treatments have been studied.

EPOXSIL (2001-2004)

Description: new organic-inorganic materials procurement, based on mixtures of epoxy resins and reactive functionalized silicone, and evaluation of its potential applications as structural adhesives and as composite matrixes.

Funding: Ministry of Science and Technology (Government of Spain).

ONE COMPONENT: 1K (2001-2004)

Description: development and manufacture of an epoxy resin for low temperature curing and solvent free prepregs. The mechanical properties of this formulation must be suitable for wind blades manufacture.
Funding: General Secretariat of Research and Development (Regional Government of Galicia).

ULTRAVIOLET (2001-2002)

Description: Design and manufacture of an UV-resistant epoxy formulation.
Funding: Directorate General of Industrial Programs and Technologic Infrastructures (Regional Government of Galicia).

FLUORAD (1997-2000)

Description: Novel in situ techniques based on fluorescence sensing for monitoring the curing and ageing of adhesives and Polymer matrix composites.
Call: Materials Technology.
