Epoxy resin for carbon fibre in sport
Sport has gone from being a mere hobby to become a large industry that constantly demands new, lighter and more resistant materials that allow sportsmen and women to become more competitive. The products developed by GAIRESA‘s R&D&I department include resin-based solutions, carbon fibre adhesives and paints for water sports, such as canoeing or regattas, surfing, fishing, athletics, cycling or tennis, among others.
The construction of sports boats, such as canoes, kayaks, trawlers or sailboats, requires light and resistant materials such as epoxy resins, which allow the composite materials that give rise to the hull of the boat to be manufactured in moulds. Processes such as manual lamination or vacuum infusion are standard in the water sports industry and GAIRESA epoxy resins such as BEPOX® 1724, BEPOX® 2086, BEPOX® 2176 or BEPOX® 2182 have demonstrated excellent performance over years of use. The structural adhesives of the LARBOND® range ensure strong and durable bonds in marine environments, thanks to their validation through accelerated ageing tests, which are carried out by GAIRESA on all its products before they are launched on the market.

Our range of nautical solutions is completed with low-density repair fillers, epoxy-based gelcoats and polyurethane topcoats, which ensure maximum resistance to solar radiation and the marine environment, increasing the service life of boats.

Surfboards, in their different modalities, also need materials that offer resistance and lightness to withstand the strong impacts and stresses they suffer on the waves. The GAIRESA’s technical solutions for surfboards, composed of low viscosity epoxy resins, chemical bonding bridges, low density repair fillers and high performance coatings, offer resistant and durable results, developed in our R&D&I laboratorylocated in the heart of the Galician Costa das Ondas (Coast of Waves).

The same GAIRESA epoxy resin systems that are successfully used in nautical sports are also suitable for manufacturing tools for other sports, such as tennis or paddle rackets. In the case of fishing equipment, the varnish and epoxy resin offer a high level of resistance and durability when ringing rods. It is also used in bicycles, poles, shin guards, etc.
