Fibreglass resin in the shipbuilding industry

As a good land of sailors, Galicia has many shipyards. Boat building is an important industrial sector in which the production of fishing boats, pleasure boats, tugboats, as well as sport boats such as kayaks, trawlers or canoes is not missing.

GAIRESA is a regular supplier of epoxy resins for boat building, being BEPOX® 1724 our star product for manual lamination and waterproofing of the boat. Other references of epoxy resins for fibreglass are also available for the nautical sector depending on the process carried out by each shipyard.

Composites for the shipbuilding industry

Complements such as our structural adhesives LARBOND® MMA (methacrylate), LARBOND® EP (epoxy) and LARBOND® PU (polyurethane) behave perfectly in marine environments and provide stability and watertightness to boats, bonding all types of materials, such as metal, wood or plastics, used in structures or installations. Structural adhesives are particularly interesting when it comes to replacing classic metal welding with cold welding, avoiding the many safety problems associated with this classic technique.

GAIBRIDGE® bonding bridges, the result of GAIRESA’s innovative capacity, have become an indispensable product to avoid osmosis problems in the underwater body, by substantially improving adhesion between layers and protecting against hydrolysis, especially when it comes to repairs.

The final protection against solar radiation is achieved with protective coatings based on aliphatic monomers: GAIDUR® P is a solvent-based polyurethane paint with maximum resistance to ultraviolet radiation and TRIEPOX® 2094 is a high thickness epoxy coating with high waterproofing capacity.

Other special coatings such as BEPOX® 889 for food contact or BEPOX® 1355 RQ to protect areas with strong chemical attack are effective and durable solutions.

On certain types of vessels, decks are high traffic areas that suffer high wear and tear and require frequent maintenance and repainting. GAIRESA has taken advantage of its knowledge and innovative capacity, developed in the industrial flooring sector, to offer the nautical sector the most durable solutions for deck protection. Maximum resistance to abrasion and durability is achieved with our GAIKOL® 2286 R fast setting epoxy system, a nautical resin that allows the deck to be walked on only 3 hours after applying the coating.

Machinable repair fillers, gelcoats to be applied on moulds and waterproofing systems for offshore rafts complete GAIRESA’s range of systems for the nautical-fishing industry.
